Plan My Move is a Department of Defense online relocation tool that helps make military moves smoother and less stressful for service members and their families. It helps you prepare for your move by organizing important tasks into easy-to-use custom checklists. You answer a few questions and a checklist is generated for you. Use it as it is, or customize it to fit your needs. With Plan My Move, you will also find links to information, resources and more.

Service members, military families and their loved ones can use Plan My Move. In addition, if you have a Military OneSource account, you can save your Plan My Move checklists and view them later.

On the Welcome page, just answer a few simple questions then click the Build My Custom Checklist button. If you want to review checklists from previous moves, use the Log in to View Saved Moves button at the bottom of the page.

Plan My Move allows you to:

  • Edit checklist items
  • Add checklist items
  • Rearrange the order of check list items with a drag and drop
  • Choose if you want to see checklist tasks by topic or in a chronological timeline
  • Save your moving checklist and revisit previously saved checklist(s)

Please note that not all destinations are listed on Plan My Move. If you do not find your destination, select the closest installation or seek assistance from your Military and Family Support Center. Also Plan My Move does not list State Department postings such as embassies or consulates.

Based on your answers to the questions, a personalized checklist is created with tasks in categories specific to your circumstances and needs. As you provide more details about your upcoming move, your checklist will become more detailed as well.

Your checklist can be displayed in either Topic View or Timeline View, and also with either full task details or as a condensed list. In Timeline View, your tasks will automatically be ordered by which you are likely to accomplish first, second and so forth. However, you can reorder tasks by clicking on the six dots or four arrows and dragging items up or down. You can also add your own custom tasks by clicking on the plus sign to the right of the topic regardless of which view you use.

Yes. It's easy to save, print or export your checklist as either a PDF, Word document or Excel file. Just follow the menu options on the Download Checklist page.

If you have a Military OneSource account and log in to Plan My Move, you can save your checklist and return to it anytime. Check off your tasks as you complete them to keep track of your progress as you prepare for your move.

Yes. If you have been through a PCS before, you may be familiar with what you need to do. However, your new situation may be different, and the Plan My Move tool can provide information on tasks that may not have applied during your last move. In addition, you can save your Plan My Move checklists to help you with your next move.
